On January 11, 2021, Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN-9) introduced a Joint Resolution in the House of Representatives to abolish the Electoral College. House Joint Resolution 14 of the 117th Congress proposes “an amendment to the Constitution of the United States to abolish the electoral college and to provide for the direct election of the President and Vice President of the United States.” Co-sponsors include Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA-19), Rep. Anna Eshoo (D-CA-18), Rep. Janice Schakowsky (D-IL-9), Rep. Julia Brownley (D-CA-26), Rep. Peter DeFazio (D-OR-4), Rep. Adriano Espaillat (D-NY-13), Rep. John Garamendi (D-CA-3), and Rep. Jim Cooper (D-TN-5). The Joint Resolution was referred to the House Judiciary Committee for further action.
